Been a while...
Right so, what's new?
I've had Nick's car for a week or so while he's visiting his girl in Texas. It's a nice change from my piece of shit 17 year old rusted out jalopy. When and if ClickProtector works out, the first thing I'm doing is gettin some decent wheels. Nick's got a pee-yellow Nissan XTerra. Actually, maybe it's more like your pee if you've been working at a Nuclear plant for a few decades. The ride's a little rickety, and it accelerates at about the same pace as one of them wall-attached floating chairs rich old people use to go up and down the stairs. But compared to my car, it's a Rolls. Gotta pick him up tonight at McCarran, then we're goin out somewhere.
A few days ago House of Wax was on, and as shitty as everyone said it was, I had to watch it. Turns out, everyone was dead wrong - the movie ROCKED. I expected my future wife #4, Paris Hilton, would put in a crappy performance and die in the first scene, but she was actually in most of the movie, and was scarily good. Great death scene for her too. | ![]() |
Went to Outside Inn last night, as usual. Starting to get to know most of the bartenders/waitresses and some of the locals, which is good. I usually get my drinks comp'ed now, as they know I play the machines now and then. Last night I played for about 20 minutes on $200, and cashed out with $201.50. Hey, I didn't lose.
Last week my friend Chris and his wife Nidja (knee-jah) visited. Chris owned the bar we frequented at Technology Review, but he's since moved to Miami cuz his wife is Brazilian. I've been workin on him for a year now to come open up a joint here in Vegas - he was gung-ho about it, but his wife.... ehhh, notsomuch. Apparently, the fact that our school system is among the worst in the country and the crime rate relatively high is a detterant to people with 4 year old daughters - who knew! So, my great plan to be the bartender and co-owner of Nosferatu is foiled.
We only got to hang out once day, but we accomplished much. Tried to go to Hash House for lunch, but they were closed, so we went to sushi somewhere, I don't even remember. Then we headed into the mountains, checked out the Calico Basin where some mountain climber had fallen and broke his head, they were trying to get him onto a chopper but it was proving difficult. I had planned for us to do the climb, but, this put a bit of a damper on the idea. So we went and just drove around a while, there's a 13 mile loop a bit west of Calico, where you can see this mountain that is all one mountain but looks like three.

After that we took a breather, then met up later at Tangerine. Martinis were $20 so I downgraded to beer after a Belvedere dry, but got bored quickly, so I went outside and played some blackjack. I lost $100 in about 45 minutes, which was all i had in my wallet. So I was walkin out and lo and behold, I ran into Nick. I bummed $80 off him, headed back to the table, and worked my stack up to $900. I ended up losing $150 on the last hand as I doubled down an 11 against a face and lost, 19 to 20, but I still took in like $600 I think.
Jack's on a big "I hate baseball" kick cuz the Yankees keep beating the Red Sox. Baseball is a "rigged" sport now, like amateur boxing, because baseball doesn't take away the Yankee's income and give it to other teams- "revenue sharing." Me, I call this sort of act robbery.
Blog Interruption - both Josh and Leo from West Wing are in Presumed Innocent - that's kinda cool. I wonder if one of them brought the other into the show. Haven't checked out his new series yet. Don't even know if it's on yet, actually. Talkin about Brad Whitford/Josh of course - since Leo's dead.
Our pool is disgustingly warm. It's like, to use a phrase coined recently by Bonnie, swimming through hamburger. We took the cover off, hopefully it starts feeling a little less cowgutty soon.
Last night Jack and I went to go see Mary sing at Satay Malaysian Grille. She was singing on top of a DJ. Not literally. Kinda weird to have a DJ/singing at a Malaysian restaurant, but theres a similiar thing going on at China Inn back in Central Square so I guess it wasn't totally unprecedented in my mind. So Mary is a pretty good singer, she has a sultry kinda misty voice, she sung for me a couple weeks ago, I dug it, she hasn't performed for a few years, cuz I guess it was getting too serious and she enjoys being a cosmotologist, but she wants to get back into it now. But this DJ was a wackjob, and when Mary went up to start singing, she sung like 2 lines, and then the DJ somehow got kicked off by the next DJ or something - it was some kind of mini-chaos in the DJ booth, no one really knows what happened, but the guy comes up to me to introduce himself, I ask him 'So when's mary going on" and he says "Oh she just sang". I said "yeah, i thgouht she was singing a few tunes" and he replies "She didn't rehearse, I dunno." Well, I asked Mary, and she said the guy was completely retarded, he refused to rehearse with her, saying she could just 'wing it', and then he got kicked off cuz he sucked. Or something like that.
Not the most interesting story, but, not the most interesting night. A few of her girlfriends were there, but, they seemed... how should we put it... disinterested in friendly communication.
