Is today retarded?
Today...
-Bush gave a $130B corporate tax break. That’s right. $130B. About the cost of the war in Iraq. The measure is the most sweeping overhaul of corporate tax law since 1986. It provides a wide range of tax benefits for native Alaskan whalers, importers of Chinese ceiling fans and NASCAR race track owners. How can anyone think that this man is anything but a criminal?
-For the World Series, Boston decided to ban lines outside of bars, put cops in every bar, lower the # of people allowed inside, and strictly limit the amount people can drink. This is due to the death of a girl after Game 7 a few days ago. Problem is, the girl died when the COPS SHOT HER IN THE EYE with a rubber bullet trying to control the celebrations after the game. The police just stood around and did nothing as the celebrations progressed, waiting until AFTER things started getting rowdy to try and instill order by hitting girls with batons and shooting into the crowd. Now the city is punishing the fans, instead of themselves? One government official even said that college students were to blame for her death, not the police. Who are they kidding? Fortunately I was on the other side of the river in Cambridge where the people know how to celebrate in the streets without tipping cars and setting fires, and cops don’t go around randomly shooting into crowds…
-The Pentagon is going to put women in military combat. Why? “Now, with the nature of asymmetrical threats, we have to relook at that policy (of banning women from combat)” What the hell does that mean? It’s jibberish meant to make people’s eyes glaze over with disinterest. So let me translate this for you: Due to complete lack of interest in dying for Bush’s personal vendetta, nobody wants to join the army voluntarily anymore and they NEED more soldiers, so they have 2 choices, let women fight, or institute the draft.
-The other day (okay, not yesterday) Bush announced that he was raising Social Security payments by almost 3% next year… Yay!!! He did something good for once… Oh shit… wait… what’s that in the fine print? He’s going to pay for it by UPPING MEDICARE FEES. So the same people who are getting the higher SS checks are paying higher Medicare fees – they’ll end up netting about $5 extra each month. How impressive, George.
-Out in CA, Arnold accused the Indian casino industry of screwing the state out of taxes by trying to pass a piece of legislation that would nullify the current payoffs that the State receives from them, and set the payments at the state’s corporate tax rate of 8.84%. The quote that has him in trouble? “The Indians are ripping us off.” In response, the casinos called Arnold’s remark racist. Racist??? If that’s racism, I guess living in Detroit in 1967 wasn’t that bad after all…
-I discovered that the stock market does 15% better under Democratic presidents than Republican, but no one has been able to prove why. Uhmmm… Isn’t this one of those “self-proving theories”?
- Staff Sgt. Ivan "Chip" Frederick got 8 years for prisoner abuse in Abu Grabe. Chip was an Army Reservist who begged his mother to sign him into the National Guard at the age of 17, and after 14 years of service, it appears he will take the fall for the policy of abusive interrogation that existed at that prison. Now, I don’t know if they were really “interrogating” or if they were just having (what they considered) fun, but I could swear I remember, months ago when this story broke, hearing there was direct evidence pointing at high level military and Cabinet members for setting and okaying these policies…
